Sunday, August 30th, at approximately 10 a.m., a man in an early model Geo driving eastbound on Market Street turned onto Fifth Avenue at a high rate of speed and lost control of his vehicle. His car jumped the curb and struck a pedestrian on the sidewalk. The car came to a stop inches away from the front of the Lucky Brand Jeans retail store.
No information was immediately known of the condition of the pedestrian; however, the drivers were taken away by ambulance for medical attention. The man seemed to be cooperating with the SDPD and didn’t appear to have been driving under the influence of alcohol, but he was arrested. His car was later towed.
