Just before 3:00 p.m. on Sunday August 2, a man was seen sitting on the sidewalk, leaning up against a building on the 400 block of Tenth Avenue. He bled profusely from his left arm. Police, fire units, and paramedics responded to the scene. The man was treated for his injuries and taken away by paramedics on a gurney and transported to a nearby hospital. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
According to witnesses, the man, in his 40s or 50s, was heard groaning and saying, “I got stabbed.” About ten feet away, a pool of blood was found on the sidewalk in front of a closed office space with a broken window. Police officers taped off the sidewalk area and asked pedestrians to walk across the street while they investigated.
Employees from Basic, a nearby bar and restaurant, said that the injured man and a male friend were patrons at their establishment and were believed to have been drinking in excess. Shortly after leaving the restaurant, the man was seen bleeding on the sidewalk. Authorities briefly interviewed the man before he was transported to a hospital.
Police believe that the man was referring to being “stabbed” by glass from the nearby window that he somehow managed to run into. A police officer at the scene commented, “I think he just fell. That’s his story…at least.”
It is unclear if charges will be filed against the injured man for the damages to the window.
