Developers are San Diego City Council's largest donor group

Most were company presidents and vice presidents

— San Diego city council campaign financial disclosures are in, and perhaps not surprisingly, only four donors to the candidates with the biggest bankrolls claim to be "developers": Ure Kretowicz of Cornerstone Communities ($270 to April Boling, District 7); Michael Gagnet of Makar Properties ($270 to Carl DeMaio, District 5); David Pattinson of Sierra Land Company ($270, DeMaio); and Peter Janopaul of J. Peter Block Companies ($270 to Todd Gloria, District 3).

On the other hand, presidents and vice presidents were plentiful. Boling got $4082 from 19 of them, including KD Development president Mike Turk and San Diego Convention Center Corporation president Carol Wallace. DeMaio got $4950 from 22, including Kourosh Hangafarin, the short-lived port commissioner, who listed himself as president of the Iranian American Leadership Council, and developer Robert Lankford, president of Lankford & Associates. Gloria collected $3225 from 13 presidents and VPs, including Gary Copson, president of developer Keystone Communities; Sherm Harmer of Urban Housing Partners; and Richard Ahrendt, vice president of Rural/Metro Ambulance, the city's paramedic contractor. On the legal front, Boling got a total of $3940 from 18 attorneys, DeMaio got $3210 from 16, and Gloria got $2160 from 8. Boling also did pretty well among "homemakers," nabbing $2440 from 13. DeMaio got a total of $2090 from 10; Gloria was a poor third with $675 from just 3.
