One of the people who campaigned for the cancellation of Seattle's Summer Nights concerts this year is Mike Silva, brother of longtime local concert promoter Bill Silva. Mike lives near Gas Works Park, where the event was to be held. He accuses concert organizers of trying to get around city restrictions.
Mike, who used to work for Bill Silva Presents, referred to his affiliation when he told the Seattle Post on March 6, "We tried to subvert public process, too, until the [San Diego] mayor stepped in and said, 'You've got to help out here. Work with people. Negotiate in good faith'...we thought it would negatively impact our business, too."
Bill Silva left San Diego for L.A. in 1999, merging his company with Universal Concerts (later House of Blues Concerts) and heading up HOB/Hewitt/Silva, LLC. He left that venture in March 2003 to re-form Bill Silva Presents and launch Bill Silva Management, which represents Jason Mraz.
