"He was the best so far," said one Infinity/CBS employee about the auditions for a Stern replacement.
The former Van Halen lead singer recently tried out as a nighttime talk-show host at FM talk station KLSX (97.1 FM) in Los Angeles.
"They also auditioned [comic] Norm MacDonald and [The Simpsons writer and producer] Sam Simon, who worked as a team. Norm MacDonald was awful. Tommy Chong is coming in. They are talking with everybody from Andrew 'Dice' Clay, Adam Carolla, Jimmy Kimmel, Robin Williams, and Chris Rock," said the employee, who did not want to be identified.
Last week Stern said the day a bill passes that will allow individuals to be personally fined $500,000 by the FCC for each incident of on-air indecency, he would stop talking and start playing music until he leaves traditional radio in December. That bill, authored by Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), overwhelmingly passed the House of Representatives February 16.
