After locals Louis XIV played in Illinois May 25, the Chicago Sun-Times called them "more eyeliner than talent.... Despite its royal moniker, salty lyrics, and heavy eyeliner, Louis XIV's hour-long show at the Metro not only failed its subjects gathered in curious adoration, it proved humorless, rote and, at times, downright bland.... To distinguish themselves, it would help if the band members spent less time on their eye makeup and more time crafting their songs."
According to the Chicago Tribune, "A few weeks ago, just before an Atlanta tour date, Pinback posted an offer for fans on its Internet message board: Any fan who could get the band tickets to an opening-night showing of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith wouldn't have to pay for that evening's concert. Obviously the main members of Pinback -- Rob Crow and Armistead Burwell Smith IV (who normally goes by Zach) -- aren't trying to be the next U2."
