"The rather sad news to report is that Hot Snakes will be packing it in after our current tour plans," according to a handwritten message posted July 1 by John Reis on swamirecords.com. "It was a complete thrill to be part of and I satisfied my insatiable hunger for sinister throbbing action. Thank you to all that urged us along and lent an ear for us to abuse."
Reis says the band will play farewell shows in Los Angeles and San Diego "before we recede into our spider holes... your last chance to dance, or bob your head, or stare, whatever you are into." The final San Diego show will be August 8 at the Casbah, and Reis promises the Husbands and the Heartaches will be on the bill.
Hot Snakes formed in 1999 with Rocket from the Crypt singer Reis (a.k.a. Speedo) and guitarist Rick Froberg (with whom Reis played in Drive Like Jehu). They released several records on Reis's Swami Records. Their latest release is Audit in Progress.
