Former Stone Temple Pilots Robert DeLeo (bass) and Dean DeLeo (guitar) have teamed with Filter front man Richard Patrick to form a still-unnamed band. In October 2001, Patrick joined STP onstage in Chicago to sing the Filter song "Hey Man, Nice Shot."
On July 6, Patrick posted this message at officialfilter.com: "My new bandmates and I have been trying our songs out in a couple of rehearsal halls around town. It's amazing how playing live in a room together can add new dimensions to the music. I've been onstage with them once before, but it's been nothing like this. So far we've got a ton of material recorded...." No word on who will drum for the band.
Ex-STP drummer Eric Kretz owns Bombshelter Studios in L.A., where he's recording with Spiralarms, his new band. On July 12, STP singer Scott Weiland appeared in a Pasadena court, where a 2003 drug charge for heroin and cocaine possession was dismissed because the singer completed his court-ordered rehab program (during which he recorded with Velvet Revolver). Former Filter members have said they're working with other bands, though Filter has yet to announce a split.
