"The San Diego Symphony told us Embarcadero North would not be available this summer. That, plus a lack of sponsorship caused us to cancel this year," said Michael Kinsman, a business writer for the Union-Tribune and the San Diego Blues Festival originator. This would have been its seventh year.
"My first year was a train wreck.... The second year, it was half a train wreck." Kinsman held his festivals at Embarcadero South for the first six years. He said he was told by the Port District that he could no longer use Embarcadero South, which, starting last year, would be used exclusively by the San Diego Symphony. This year he was told by the Port District that Embarcadero North would not be available either, due to concerns that his blues music would bleed over to the Symphony site.
