Nepal is the only other place on the planet that Greg Paquette and Paul Basile think this is happening: electric, nonpolluting, short-distance cabs beetling about downtown looking for business. Now Paquette and Basile have introduced it here. The two longtime Gaslamp residents had to battle the City, pedicab peddlers, and local cab companies to make it happen. "They shouldn't worry," says Basile. "We fill a gap: distances too great for pedicabs, too short for standard cabs. Like Gaslamp to Little Italy." Available daily from 7 a.m. to midnight (until 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday). Rates: 1 to 4 blocks $3; 5 to 9 blocks $5; 10 to 15 blocks $7; and 20 to 30 blocks $10. With 15 cabs on tap, they promise to pick you up within 7 minutes.
