Only a half mile south of the border is an area of Tijuana nightlife not known to many Americans. The Centro Plaza Fiesta (by day a shopping center) at night reveals eight sophisticated bars and clubs. But Sotano Suizo stands out from the rest. Owned and operated by Rene Bosiger since 1989, this "Swiss basement" with traditional Swiss army gear decorating its walls plays the best mix of American rock music. While the neighboring clubs play traditional rock en Espa–ol, the patrons of Sotano Suizo are rockin' to artists such as the Rolling Stones, U2, Aerosmith, and Pink Floyd. Monday through Friday there's a happy hour from 5 to 7 p.m. And if you're really hungry, you can choose Swiss-dish favorites such as bratwurst, fondue, and their famous rib-eye steak. Directions and a full menu are on the website.
