Sicilian Village Deli
895 Fourth Avenue, Downtown
619-234-4002
This place was once part of the late lamented Farmer's Bazaar in East Village. Happily their prices haven't gone Gaslamp. One of downtown's best values, and a great belly-filler, is their prime rib dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. It comes with a choice of spaghetti, rice, mashed potatoes, or fries and soup or salad. Also good and interesting: Chicken Marsala, cooked in sweet wine. Bargains: "The Sicilian" sandwich (with tuna, olive oil, capers, tomatoes, and onions) or the awesome half-spaghetti, half-lasagna dish with garlic bread. Plus, you can sit here and watch the world swirl around Sam Goody's, Horton Plaza, and the old Balboa Theater.
