Speakers' Corner British Pub & Grill
2664 Fifth Avenue, Banker's Hill
619-232-5456
Come on a Friday night, when English, Scots, Irish, Aussies, and Kiwis turn this place into a piece of Blighty (England) with their Beatles songs and their Tennents Ale and their English-humor jokes. They even have a Hyde Parkstyle soap box so you can stand up and shout "Wot about the workers!?" (as long as you can take the heckling). The place may not be as grand as its competitors, the Princess and the Shakespeare, but its smallness (packed with soccer scarves, memorabilia, and pictures of Merrie Olde England) makes it feel, well, like a real pub. Great fish and chips, too. Check out the 1961 poster for "The Silver Beatles" -- George Harrison, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Pete Best.
