Paras News
3911 30th Street, North Park
619-296-2859
Opened in 1950 as a cigar shop and transformed to a newsstand in 1952, Paras is the most comprehensive newsstand in San Diego. If there's a newspaper or magazine you've been looking for, you'll find it at Paras, or you won't find it at all. Inside, the atmosphere is low-key. No one will talk to you unless you ask for help. Dailies from every major city (domestic and foreign) line the doorway as you enter. Besides the usual slew of news, glamour, automotive, entertainment, and girlie magazines, you can revel in such obscurities as Film Quarterly, Silicon Alley, Paranoia, Black Men, Your Prom, Viva, Pen World, and Washington Quarterly. There is also a comics section, maps and ample foreign magazines such as Bunte and L'Intelligent. They also offer candy, snacks, ice cream novelties, and even tobacco (behind the counter). Open Monday-Saturday, 7:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.; Sunday 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
