The Rosarito Ensenada 50 Mile Fun Bicycle Ride is the West Coast's largest biking event, with approximately 10,000 participants in the spring ride (mid-April) and around 8000 riders in the fall ride (late September). The route begins with a 22-mile cruise taking cyclists south along the Baja coastline on the free road (Mexico 1) before heading inland for two miles through the rural countryside. Riders then turn south for a two-mile climb up El Tigre Mountain (more correctly El Tigre hill). From the mesa plateau, the trip winds through eight hilly miles before dropping downhill and then along the ocean until the finish line just outside Ensenada. Friends and family can accompany in cars by riding the Federal Toll Road from Rosarito to Ensenada, and all can unite for the Finish Line Fiesta. The party runs from 1:00 p.m. through sunset and features live music, food, dancing, and souvenirs, not to mention opportunities for cyclists to ease their swollen joints and aching muscles with massages and chiropractic services. The entry fee is $20 U.S. plus $1.00 Mexican City Tax, which covers purified water, minor bicycle repairs, and medical support (U.S. based) plus a free beer or soft drink at the Fiesta.
