The San Diego Early Music Society
(619) 291-8246
For two decades, this group has brought performers of this music to San Diego. This is music not only for aficionados, but also for any music lover eager to hear something new: new because it is old. The five or six concerts of the society's series take place mainly in the sanctuary of La Jolla's St. James by-the-Sea, although an occasional group will perform in nearby Sherwood Auditorium (such will be the case with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, which opens the 2000 season in October with an all-Bach program). In addition, the Early Music Society co-sponsors a six-concert series at the San Diego Museum of Art, featuring excellent local performers of early music.
