Reruns Children's Resale Shop
1015 C Avenue, Coronado
(619) 435-5444
The unique thing about Reruns is that, well, they're cheap and they're surrounded by rich folks. More admirals' grandkids grow up here than any place on the planet. Add dot-com newcomers and the wealthy Mexican families from Coronado Shores and Coronado Cays, and you have a supply of rich-kid stuff being consigned and resold, often for less than a Jackson. Plus, Mexican families dress their kids with more formality than typical Anglo families, so Reruns gets a number of big-designer items. For boys too but, of course, more for girls. On a recent visit, a purple flowery Lord and Taylor cotton jersey dress for a six-year-old, $20. A Ralph Lauren shirt dress in white linen with a sash, for a 12- to 14-year-old, $25. Or a Mexican cotton sun dress bursting with tulips on a black background, with matching purse, for a 12-year-old, $35. Or an ankle-length formal Sylvia White cream moray file rayon dress from El Salvador with a lace and pearl collar bib, $40. "Of course my daughter wouldn't be seen dead in these," says Joan LaKarnafeaux-Collom, the owner. "She prefers black and casual."
