It was a sad day for greasy-spoon lovers when Topsy's diner near Hillcrest closed last summer and its campy '60s Vegas-style marquee fell to the wrecking ball. Luckily, up the street, Rudford's remains open 24 hours a day with its own retro chrome-and-vinyl decor and testy truckstop waitresses. The all-American menu of artery-clogging and fat-filled diner food includes grilled tuna and cheese ($5.25), specialty burgers (from $5.50), chicken-fried steaks with country gravy ($6.55 lunch/$7.55 dinner), and assorted pies, pudding, and ice cream.
