Kevin Bacon in a restrained performance as a paroled pedophile (less restrained in his sex scenes with his real-life mate, Kyra Sedgwick) who takes up residence opposite a grade school (this is "supervised parole"?), tries to stay straight, and keeps a watchful eye on a prowling predator whom he nicknames "Candy." Some of the protagonist's torments are credible enough, though the filmmaking (first-timer Nicole Kassell) is unassured and underfunded. Adapted from a play by Steven Fechter; with Benjamin Bratt, Mos Def, Eve, and David Alan Grier. (2004) — Duncan Shepherd
