From ice fields to oil fields, a camera crew trails hiking guide-director-producer David Lavallee as he follows an imaginary drop of water from the peak of Western Canada’s Mount Snow Dome down through the contaminated waters of the Anthabasca River. His goal is to point out the oil industry’s dependence on water and the ensuing devastation this type of corporate marauding wreaks on the physical and emotional well-being of the townsfolk. It took the death of 1,600 ducks to publicly draw the government’s attention to the cancer-causing contaminants in the drinking water. In lieu of an apology (let alone a solution), the locals who live downriver were treated to a plate of KFC. Another infuriating rape-of-nature doc that will no doubt play solely to an audience of converts. (2011) — Scott Marks
