Wanting to escape the memories of their dead son, a couple moves from the big city to a remote New England farmhouse. Using the kid’s ghost-in-tow as his lead-in to horror, writer-director Ted Geoghegan directly proceeds to drop as unambitious a haunted house movie as any you’ll find. One jolt: at no point do the words “Based on a True Story” appear on screen. Mysterious neighbors stop in to say hello and supply backstory. A pair of spiritualist pals are able to free up space in their appointment book to accommodate a weekend visit. Nothing happens that we haven’t already experienced dozens, if not hundreds of times before. Excise the few spineless attempts at spine-tingling gore and this could just as easily been called ABC Movie of the Week #4,209. Even the amateurish performances would feel right at home on the small screen. Marlon Wayans did it better! (2015) — Scott Marks
