Gothic mystery tailored for schoolgirls. Or for any 1980s moviegoer, actually, who would like once again to see something in the chiller category without having to dread the amounts of blood to be spilt. The Disney insignia pretty well guarantees that nothing too grisly will occur, and what has been subtracted in bloodletting has been put into plotting and suspense-building, and particularly into stoking our interest in the key question: who is this watcher in the woods, who stalks two young American sisters with Jaws-like subjective camerawork and bass musical accompaniment, and who whispers strange instructions in the younger one's ear? The answer to that question catapults you into another genre completely. With Lynn-Holly Johnson, Carroll Baker, and Bette Davis; directed by John Hough. (1981) — Duncan Shepherd
