A self-declared "technologist," who claims never to read fiction or to have dreams, follows a trail of coincidence and impulse to a destination of Greek tragedy (and in Greece, too), in the year 1957 -- this despite the baseball score reported on the radio of a game between the Angels and the Royals. (What are the odds that if you randomly chose two of the current Major League teams, neither of them would have existed in 1957?) Sam Shepard is a bit loose and laid-back in the lead role, but there are nice locations (from Mexico to New York to France to Italy to Greece) and nice period artifacts, and Volker Schlondorff shows a nice appreciative comfort with them. Julie Delpy, Barbara Sukowa. (1992) — Duncan Shepherd
