For display only, a discordant arrangement of florid characters in a studiedly "cool" crime comedy: a couple of professional hitmen, one psychopathic, the other oversensitive about his hair loss; a couple of vice cops, one burnt-out, the other aspiring to Homicide; a Winter Olympics also-ran; a suicidal Emmy winner with a dog called Bogie; a Brit art dealer with kidney stones; others. Among them, some striking performances, especially from James Spader and Charlize Theron as the psycho and his bimbo, and from Glenne Headly as the art dealer's mousy girl Friday. And a big moment of eye contact between Danny Aiello and Paul Mazursky might bring The Pickle (in which Aiello played Mazursky's alter ego) to the minds of the thirteen people who saw it. With Eric Stoltz, Jeff Daniels, Teri Hatcher, Greg Cruttwell, Marsha Mason, Keith Carradine, Peter Horton; written and directed by John Herzfeld. (1996) — Duncan Shepherd
