Someone-for-everyone love story about a curvy young maiden no bigger than your thumb (no bigger than your thumbnail when she rides on the back of a bumblebee) who finds a suitable beau in a flittering, tights-wearing fairy (as in sprite, pixie, little person). Animator Don Bluth again offers a supplement, not so much an alternative, to Disney: a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, plus songs (Barry Manilow, composer: "Thumbelina! She's a funny little squirt./ Thumbelina! Like an angel in a skirt") -- but slower and duller than Disney, and without a decent villain, just a bunch of Spanish toads looking curiously like a minstrel-show troupe, only in greenface instead of black.
