For those unfamiliar with the appealingly dark acts of perversity François Ozon (Swimming Pool) has previously taken delight in putting audiences through, this is probably as subdued (though not entirely safe) a point of entry as any. Ozon had me with the virtuosity of his opening nine-minute encapsulation of a lifelong friendship that begins and ends in a casket. The husband (Romain Duris) and “blood-sister” (Anais Demoustier) of the deceased — she swore to look after both spouse and child – form a unique — to say the least — alliance, aimed at keeping alive the spirit of their loved one. The reveal comes early on, yet this is one film that I hesitate to spoil in the smallest particular. Suffice it to say, the kinkiness clicks, and in no time, the film explodes with Ozon’s trademark descriptive verve. With Isild Le Besco and the timeless beauty of Aurore Clément. Subtitled.
