I’ve seen it twice and comparisons to the impossible-to-top Borat are unfair. If a comedy is to be judged strictly on the amount of laughs generated, this cheese is gleeful to stand alone in praise of Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest fountain of offal. With few bones left for the Jackass gang to break and only the Apatow Factory’s mendacious brand of pasteurized bad taste to guide us, incivility as an art form appeared to have hit an all-time low. Borat lit the fuse, but no comedy since has caused quite the explosion (Bruno was a notable failure). Grimsby comes closest with its reimagining of The Prince and the Pauper as a think-free action comedy aimed at “working-class scum.” For a spoof with as many bullets fired as jokes lobbed, Cohen was wise to hire action hack Louis Leterrier (Transporter, Clash of the Titans) to do most of the heavy lifting. And were the Academy to instate a category for Biggest Sport of the Year, Mark Strong would win uncontested. (2016) — Scott Marks
