Coarse-grained and clumsy, this black action film shies away, rather squeamishly, from encouraging audience whoop-dee-doo. Credit for the relative restraint should go to the unconceited and uncool acting of Ron O'Neal and Carl Lee, as partners in cocaine distribution who are anxiously looking for a place in the shade. Directed by Gordon Parks, Jr. (1972) — Duncan Shepherd
