Cherub-faced Emily Browning finds herself in a world of digital overkill — the live characters stick out like squashed flies in a coloring book. The story involves a group of unwilling prostitutes bent on escape from their prison-like brothel. We are then transported through the protagonist’s imagination to a fantasy land where she and her compatriots do metaphoric battle with the forces of evil in anachronistic orgies of CGI. The premise of freeing the sexually wounded girls is undermined by their costumes, blatantly designed for male titillation, not female empowerment. Directed by Zack Snyder. (2011) — John Rubio
