A good cause done bad in this “shoot now, figure it out later” documentary. First-time director Amanda Lipitz follows three members of a step team from an all-girl school. Must everything end in a competition? It’s art, not sports! Can’t children be taught to pursue their dreams without having some damn loving cup attached? As for the choreography, one person’s dancing is another person’s calisthenics. Please forgive the turd-in-the-pool tone of this review of a film, but from where I sit teaching students how to tell a story with pictures is equally as, if not more important than transforming them into a classroom filled with Michael Flatley wannabes. And if the filmmakers really wanted to move audiences, they should have tried more grit and less Glee. Be glad you didn’t step in it. (2017) — Scott Marks
