Zero points for originality of concept or strategy of execution: another vintage TV show transferred to the big screen, and, after the fashion of The Brady Bunch of similar vintage, held up to ridicule for its datedness (its tight pants, its wide collars, its perms), among other things. The results are innocuous at worst and ingratiating at best, although maybe it helps if you have never seen the TV show and have no proprietary interest in it. Ben Stiller, always a willing horse's ass, comes off the better of the two stars as a by-the-book undercover cop who acknowledges no such thing as petty crime, while Owen Wilson, a too-cool-for-school detective unaverse to a bit of criminal activity of his own, makes no modifications to his normal persona such as might be construed as characterization. Vince Vaughn, Snoop Dogg, Fred Williamson; directed by Todd Phillips. (2004) — Duncan Shepherd
