In an unwarranted and unwanted sequel, the shiftless hero of That'll Be the Day is whipped into shape as a sort of composite of every rock musician who ever lucked into more success than could humanly be handled. Much more ambitious in scope than the earlier film, but the cost of getting across that wider expanse is the conversion of the earlier sharp detail into an almost featureless blur. With David Essex, Adam Faith, and Larry Hagman; directed by Michael Apted. (1975) — Duncan Shepherd
