John Wayne's star-making role, the Ringo Kid, and the beginning of a long partnership (a dozen more starring roles) with director John Ford — a heavyset Western, bulked up from an Ernest Haycox short story, with broad characterizations, picture-postcard backgrounds, and a lurching, jostling pace.
