From the heights of his craggy-mountain body, Charlton Heston gazes disgustedly upon what the world has come to (pea-soup smog, people living on stairways, etc.) in this future-time detective story; and as in the first Apes movie he is left at the fadeout bellowing the terrible truth about human destiny. The narrative moves so fast, allowing no slavery over gimmicks or special effects or ecological philosophy, that it leaves almost no lasting impression; but there are bits here and there to clutch at. With Edward G. Robinson and Chuck Connors; directed by Richard Fleischer. (1973) — Duncan Shepherd
