Determinedly lunatic comedy, often at the cost of all credibility and all charm, having to do with an unlikely coming-together of the worlds of academia, the garment industry, the Mafia, and the Italian opera. Andrew Bergman, who wrote the script of The In-Laws, gets to direct his own script here, though he isn't able to give it any more visual lustre than The In-Laws had. He displays a certain talent for the quick humorous sketch -- of professions or milieus or the types of people found therein -- but he shows no inclination to expand that talent to include full-length, detailed comic portraiture. With Ryan O'Neal, Jack Warden, Richard Kiel, and Mariangela Melato. (1981) — Duncan Shepherd
