An animated musical morality play for kids about a band of merry Sasquatches who learn to question authority (and the meaning of tolerance) after an abominable human comes to town. Wanting to follow his father’s formidable footsteps into the bregma-bashing profession, Migo longs for the day when he can use his head to gong in each new dawn. Set in a frigid village where the Yetis have no noses, the film raises the question: how do they smell? Pretty good from where I was seated, thanks to the roving camerawork that directors Karey Kirkpatrick and Jason Reisig use to manipulate their characters through the glacial amusement park they call home. (Think Max Ophuls for toddlers.) And where better than this icy locale to insert a couple of literal (and superbly executed) avalanche gags? Musical numbers in contemporary animation generally act as narrative logjams. In this case, the Broadway pizzazz kept my feet a-tapping. With the voices of Channing Tatum, James Corden, and Zendaya.
