Retirement-age cop, under the mistaken impression he's got a fatal illness called Wexler's Curtain, needs to die in the line of duty in order to collect on his life-insurance policy -- a reasonable premise for a slapstick comedy by Harold Lloyd, who wouldn't have taken half the movie just to set the premise up, wouldn't have introduced a subplot about murderous gun smugglers, wouldn't have needed Dolby Stereo for the car chases, wouldn't for a moment have thought he was making The French Connection instead. With Dabney Coleman, Matt Frewer, Teri Garr; directed by Gregg Champion. (1990) — Duncan Shepherd
