Experimental Russian film, by Sergei Paradjanov, laced with occultism and eroticism and other untypical Russian exports. Not all will be willing, or able, to follow into the airiest reaches of this bit of Carpathian folklore, but the overpowering physicality of the production, the acrobatic camera and voluptuous color, will cross most cultural barriers.
