French sex odyssey, as only the French know how. The journey begins with the bonding of a pair of girl-power sexual guerrillas ("Let's use our guts and our asses to climb the social ladder"), loses its way in the labyrinth of office politics, and smashes on the rocks, so to speak, of a literal ladykiller (well, at any rate he has driven two separate women to self-immolation). Observing every step of this progress is a shadowy spectral cloaked figure, carrying a bird of prey and looking as if he wandered out of the orgy in Eyes Wide Shut. The high point, which is to say the height of absurdity, is a wedding-night three-way (brother and sister and bride) to the accompaniment of Handel's coronation anthem, Zadok the Priest -- until, anyway, an uninvited fourth spoils the party and abruptly stops the music. With Sabrina Seyvecou and Coralie Revel; written and directed by Jean-Claude Brisseau. (2002) — Duncan Shepherd
