Good-looking psychological thriller -- deep space, flat color, a slithering camera -- about a Boy Who Cried Wolf, his mother, and their separate but equal entanglements with an escaped convict. The psychological part is all right, as long as it stays within the family circle. But the movie has to stretch too far, both psychologically and just logically, to keep within screaming distance of a thriller. The rain-drenched climax is nearer farce. Catherine Deneuve, Nicholas Giraudi, Danielle Darrieux, Victor Lanoux; directed by André Téchiné. (1986) — Duncan Shepherd
