Purer Hollywood than country. A burnt-out C&W singer called Dusty, just Dusty ("Ahm tard a all the smoke an the lots. It ain't me"), goes AWOL and back to his roots; finds himself and someone to love him for just him. In spite of the assistance of compulsively swooning camerawork, the listless acting debut of George Strait, that dream in jeans, is overshadowed by the appearance of a gaunt old gravelly-voiced geezer barely recognizable as Rory Calhoun. With Isabel Glasser and Lesley Ann Warren; directed by Christopher Cain. (1992) — Duncan Shepherd
