What are the chances of a talented 38-year-old caretaker/would-be singer (the bewitchingly baptized Samantha Montgomery, aka Princess Shaw) — who is lucky if her original videos attract 64 views — being discovered by an Israeli musician (Ophir Kutiel aka Kutiman) who’s currently at work creating “visual symphonies” out of random YouTube postings? We follow Shaw’s journey from open-mic nights in New Orleans to performing in Tel Aviv, but here’s the catch: no one, not Kutiman nor documentarian Ido Haar, tells the struggling video artist of their plans to transform her into a viral superstar. Since they don’t mind cannibalizing the work of an unknown artist to advance their fame, here’s hoping someone posts a copy of PPS on YouTube the second it hits VOD. No better than what you’d expect to find on American Idol and The Voice, both of which are a lot more upfront in their cynicism. (2015) — Scott Marks
