A very small film about a very small Jewish racketeer, made by the Nothing but a Man team, Michael Roemer and Robert Young, in the heyday of the American independent film (ca. 1970) and rescued from oblivion two decades later. It cuts a wide (or a curvy) path through the New York melting pot, and occasionally bumps up against something resembling charm (an "artistic" lingerie show with soap bubbles for atmosphere, a telethon with a tap-dancing former wheelchair child). But its claims for resurrection would seem to be slim. With Martin Priest and Ben Lang. (1989) — Duncan Shepherd
