As a child playing hide and seek, Heri (Humberto Busto) was the one kid on the block no one would search for. Years later, the former class nerd with the ever-present deranged chortle agrees to drive two of his arch high school aggressors (Lilia Mendoza and Cristian Magaloni) to the 25-year reunion, only this time, the laugh’s on them. “We are all somebody else’s executioners” is the way in which one character seeks to justify past sins, but it’s not going to work. The same goes for, “Shot entirely on an iPhone!” As if that publicist’s selling point is somehow meant to evoke sympathy in the viewer or convince critics to add an extra star to their rating? Cameras don’t make movies, directors do. But in spite of Marcelo Tobar’s inexplicable multi-ratio technique, these are 70 of the most unsettling minutes you’re likely to spend in a theatre this year.
