Bergman and Bogart together again? Not hardly. This Bergman is Andrew and he's the scriptwriter, and this Bogart is Paul and he's the director; and although a line from Casablanca is quoted (perhaps for luck, perhaps by coincidence), it is not really the same thing at all. George Burns plays both titular roles (one of the clumsiest titles, incidentally, in movie history), with the latter role predominant, in yet another variation on the Faust legend, not varied very much from Phantom of the Paradise. As there, a struggling songwriter "sells out" to become a rock star. Actually, he takes the place of an existing rock star, while still looking and thinking like his old self. This confuses and exasperates him -- and not him alone. Ted Wass, Ron Silver. (1984) — Duncan Shepherd
