Pretty good title for your basic black-folks-killing-black-folks panorama, stretched out to an hour and a half (or close to it) by flashbacks in illustration of a drug dealer's tape-recorded autobiography: "Payback's a motherfucker," he ruminates in DMX's hacksaw monotone: "The Hindus have a word for it. Karma." (DMX is not a name designed to look good on a marquee, where it might easily be mistaken as a successor to THX.) Director Ernest Dickerson, who used to be a decent cinematographer, oversees an image so grainy that it sometimes looks as if we're peering through the snow on an antenna-less TV. With David Arquette, Michael Ealy. (2004) — Duncan Shepherd
