A piece of light persiflage, too playful to be truly provocative, addressed to the opposite sex by a woman writer and director (Doris Dörrie, more facile as writer than director). The situation of a cuckold becoming the apartment-mate of The Other Man, incognito, has some real possibilities. (The woman in the picture hardly comes into it.) The bourgeois cuckold taking outrageous advantage of the other one's bohemian liberalism is one of the better possibilities. The two of them growing gradually alike is one of the more predictable and sterile ones. And gorilla costumes really ought to be banned from comedies for a recuperative period of perhaps half a century. With Heiner Lauterbach and Uwe Ochsenknecht. (1985) — Duncan Shepherd
