The 1966 sci-fi joker Mars Needs Women is Disneyfied by director and writer Simon Wells. As pop entertainment, his movie is slick but also superior, a charming 3-D animation about a boy who goes to Mars to rescue his abducted mom. Kids probably won’t get the nods to Reagan and the Cold War, but they will enjoy the scary-funny adventures. A style of airbrushed realism, with beautiful contrasts and pertly feminine aliens, gives us the best Red Planet since Robinson Crusoe on Mars used Death Valley. Voices include Seth Green, Joan Cusack, Dan Fogler, and Tom Everett Scott. (2011) — David Elliott
