Music’s golden couple (Jennifer Lopez and Maluma) are set to make it legal before a viewing audience of 20 million when tragedy strikes in the form of viral video evidence of the groom getting it on with the bride’s assistant. In the spirit of that nineteenth century theatrical axiom, the show will indeed go on even if it entails marrying a stranger randomly plucked from the audience and played with dumbfounded aplomb by Owen Wilson. You’ll know the waters are steeped in antiquity the moment the jewelry box lid playfully snaps on the fingers of pretty woman Lopez. How little must JLo think of her fans to foist a divertissement upon them that’s generic to the point of contemptibility? The choreography makes America's Got Talent look like Hermes Pan and who'd have thought someone as terminally hip as Sarah Silverman would ever sink so low as to bring snowflake comic relief to this blizzard of banality? If you really want a laugh, check out Lopez’s appearance on The View where she details the difficulty of finding her character. Doesn’t she own a mirror? Kat Coiro (Life Happens, A Case of You) directs. (2022) — Scott Marks
