Solemnly religiose science fiction, about a "cybernetic Christ" with a Tony Perkins (as Norman Bates) haircut, who checks himself into a lunatic asylum, claims to come from outer space, plays Bach on the organ, says things like "You are all robots, you just haven't realized it yet," and completely confounds his world-weary psychiatrist (the poor man sits at home alone, playing a wailing saxophone or watching home movies with tears streaming down his cheeks). The heart of the movie is the duel of wits between the two -- a very talky duel, although the camera keeps circling this way and that, to create at least an illusion of movement. But we never really get very far, because the psychiatrist isn't privy to his patient's feats of telekinesis. We, who know better, settle snugly (and smugly) into the insanity-of-sanity line of thought. With Lorenzo Quinteros and Hugo Soto; directed by Eliseo Subiela. (1986) — Duncan Shepherd
